Aji Contemporary Japanese - Hopkins, MN - Menu - 7. Main St - Phone Number. Main St. Hopkins, MN5. So many reasons to love this place! First of all, it's close to home. We have (and probably always will!) traveled to get all you can eat sushi. Second, it's not a chain and it shows.

It's worth it to give this place a try! Food: We were satisfied with the food, especially when you remember that it's literally ALL YOU CAN EAT sushi! Is it the same quality as a 5- star sushi restaurant?

But it's still great. Service: The restaurant was slow, so I was not surprised by how great the service was. If they can keep that up during a busier time, then they're golden.

Atmosphere: Exactly what you'd expect, but I like that it's different from the normal Hopkins vibe. This was a first time experience here and most likely a last experience for me. I went with co- workers over lunch, upon entering there was only one other table in the restaurant. We were seated and the lady asked if we were doing the buffet.

She started to walk away assuming all three of us were doing the buffet, I asked for a menu for the food from the kitchen. Upon ordering the food my colleagues went to go get their plates of sushi. I ate the Teriyaki Chicken since I am not a super huge sushi fan.

The food took quite a while for being so slow. Upon arriving at the table I was really disappointed in the taste.

Maybe I chose the wrong item on the menu but it was not very tasteful and I did not finish it. The veggies were barely cooked and the sauce not very flavorful. Upon completing our meals we asked for the checks to be split up, we each gave our cards to be run.

We watched as the server went to the front and ran two of the cards. Then was continuously swiping the third (over 1. The other server or manager came over and had to restart the computer due to it being frozen. At this point it was at least 1. Once the register re- started they continued to try and swipe it. Upon it not working the third check was paid for in cash. Keep in mind there was no issue with funds in the account.

After paying cash then leaving the charge showed up as cashed out via credit card as well. Upon returning to the restaurant they were not very welcoming of the feedback and said that it should be removed, provided no other information. I asked to speak with a manager, which evidently they said there wasn't one. Then she gave me a guy named "Kens" phone number. Bad service. Meh food. Not recommended. Placed a to- go order at 9ish.

They said pickup today (Sunday) would be half an hour. Arrived at just after 9: 3. The sign on the patio and in the window both say the hours today are 4pm to 1. WTF? I really like the hamachi nigiri. I will definitely be back for the happy hour. I also like the staff. Anyone in Hopkins who likes fish should go here!

Hopkins sushi lovers will fall in love with the menu at Aji Japanese Restaurant, a Japanese restaurant right in the heart of Hopkins. Guess what? Aji Japanese. Sushi purists-those who won't be satisfied with a Japanese meal that doesn't involve roundtrip airfare to Tokyo-will view Aji with the same disdain they reserve for.

I wanted to like this place so bad because its so close to me. I didn't really like my first experience and my 2nd experience was no better than the first and I'm talking foodwise.

Service was just ok. Creamy Shrimp Pasta on this page. This last visit we ended up there during happy hour from 8pm- close. What we ordered. Mini crab cakes - If you pull the top of the "b" in crab, down to show it as a "p", that's how I felt about it.

If you want to use imitation crab, call it imitation crab cakes. I guess the good thing about it was the price. Fire Ball Roll - It had a warning sign on it so I had to try it.

It was spicy so the warning sign was good since it'll be super spicy for most. Don't take that warning lightly if you think hot cheetos is spicy. I'd say its a little spicier than hot cheetos. I'd order this one again. It was decent. Sashimi Platter - 5 variety of chef's choice fish. They didn't tell us what type of fish they were like our first visit but I know for sure we had tuna, salmon, and octopus.

Maybe there was yellowtail too but I wasn't too sure. This platter came with salad and soup. I just realized we did not get our soup. Bummer! The salad was not good. Their ginger sauce had a hint of wasabi so every bite I felt the irritation in my nose. I had to stop eating it after the 3rd bite. What a shame cause I have never disliked any salad from a sushi restaurant.

I may give HH another try just because their prices are decent and they're just around the corner from me. Fried oysters are perfectly done, lightly crispy and delicate. House salad with ginger dressing is fresh and large enough to make a decent light meal in itself. Excellent little sushi place! We came shortly after happy hour ended and was the only other party there, so the service was good and the waiter very attentive. Every time I have come here for dinner, there are few other people there so don't expect a bustling environment for dinner.

But I hear the lunch buffet is pretty quality; I will have to try this soon! The sushi is crafted well and beautifully, but the fried items leave a bit to be desired.

It seems as if things are just pulled from a freezer and fried. The service is very good, despite a small language barrier. I would definitely return based on service and sushi (and also to try the lunch buffet!)Spontaneous dinner with our three kids age 1. We wanted them to experience Japanese good and Ajii is perfectly located in Hopkins MN. Of course they loved it despite texture and "raw". We started with Tuna Tataki and beef Cappaccio. Super good. We agreed the Tuna Tataki was the favored of the the two.

Another favorite is the B$B roll. I know, not really Sushi, but it's money. Kinda of Asian flavor meets MN stable protein. Great place for families if your kids aren't thinking chicken strips or noodles. It isn't vinyl table clothes but it isn't formal either. One of the waiters is super attentive if he knows your on a date.

If he is your waiter, go with the special. He's a one man multiple scene act. Aji has a wonderful lunch buffet. There is always a fresh selection of sashimi and maki rolls. The chefs are always happy to make me a couple veggie rolls and they have a green salad with a few veggies and a great ginger dressing, along with fresh fruit and kimchi.

The only reason I give four stars instead of 5 is they used to serve miso soup but have recently swapped that out with fried veggie spring rolls and wontons. I miss the soup! Oh Aji. Your $1. 5 all- you- can- eat lunch buffet is on par and the sushi has never disappointed. I'd recommend the buffet before any of the entrees and it really pushes me to give four stars..
